Soft Wearables Studio- Fall 2021
Collaborative project with Chloe Byrne and Quinn Mills
A maternity gown with embedded heart sensors for mom and baby.
Our class partnered with UES, who provided ELMNT Liquid Metal Conducting Ink as one of our design constraints. ELMNT ink is a flexible conductive ink that enables wearable electronics to be tougher and more comfortable, while offering ease of design and fabrication.
Target Customer
Preliminary Sketches
Focus on comfort and utility, while also thinking about where the conductive ink traces, components, and seams would go.
Final Schematic and Pattern
In order to capitalize on the stretchy property of the ink, we decided to design our traces around the belly area and up through the chest. As the baby grows, the stretchy fabric and traces will stretch with it while the ink stays at the same resistance.
Fluttr App
Data from the heart rate monitors is sent to the Fluttr app, where the expecting mother can quickly and efficiently view critical information, log history, contact doctors, and share data to MyChart.
Branding
